Passengers were stuck on Sydney trains for more than an hour yesterday after a power issue crippled Wynyard station.

Trains were stuck in tunnels and commuters had to be rescued from the sweltering carriages.

One commuter took to Twitter saying he was "stuck on a hot train with no air conditioning".

Passengers were urged to allow plenty of additional travel time to get to their destinations.

"We are sorry for the major delays our customers experienced on our services during this evening’s peak," Sydney Trains Chief Executive Howard Collins said.

"We apologise again for those customers who have experienced these delays."
