'Bomber' Thompson arrested in alleged drug trafficking investigation

Former Geelong premiership coach Mark "Bomber" Thompson has been arrested amid a probe into alleged drug trafficking. 

Police confirmed Thompson was apprehended after a raid at his Rouse Street, Port Melbourne, home on Friday morning.

The 54-year-old has since been released pending enquires.

Three other people have been charged with drug trafficking following the Port Melbourne raid and another search in Geelong.

They include Thomas Windsor, 28, who was reportedly staying at the property owned by Thompson.

A 31-year-old Lara man and a 22-year-old Mill Park woman were also charged and remanded in custody.

Reports from The Age suggest Mr Windsor and the Lara man, named as Karl Holt, have bikie links in the Geelong area.

The trio were remanded in custody and are due to face court at a later date.

Earlier footage released from the raid shows police storming through the door of Thompson’s property on Rouse Street.

Witnesses reported seeing a battering ram being used to gain access to the home.

A neighbour said another man had been living at the property over the past few months and Thompson was seen only occasionally.

Another neighbour added all police "took out was a few evidence bags. They didn't look big."

An Essendon great, Thompson played 202 games for the club before retiring in 1996.

The 54-year-old went on coach Geelong to two premierships before returning to the Bombers in 2010.

As an assistant coach, Thompson was embroiled in the 2013 supplement controversy that rocked the club.

He was charged by the AFL with bringing the game into disrepute, and fined $30,000 for his role in the saga.
