Police take down alleged Gold coast ATM bandit after string of robberies

Police have arrested and charged a man on the Gold Coast allegedly linked to a spree of break-and-enters and ATM robberies spanning over six months and two states.

The 39-year-old male’s Upper Coomera home was raided earlier today where police seized high-powered tools, a safe, a cigarette machine, hand tools and coins.

Police will allege the man was involved in a string of attempted ATM robberies and two successful ATM robberies in Coomera and Helensvale where $150,000 was stolen.

Detective Brian Swan said it was a significant arrest.

“Since about December last year, we’ve had a number of attempts on ATMs where offenders have broken into business premises,” he said.

“A number of offences I would describe as professional in nature.”

The man is expected to front Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
