Police smash car windows to stop driver during two-hour chase

It was an afternoon of chaos across Sydney’s south-west, with a driver leading police on a chase for two hours across several suburbs.

With helicopters monitoring above and the dog squad below, the man was finally arrested when his car's windows were smashed in.

Police allege the man led them on a two-hour chase this afternoon and he was finally cornered by officers and a police dog on a Cabramatta golf course.

The man was handcuffed on the grass while his face was bleeding and as he grimaced in pain.

The car he was driving, parked in a nearby street, had its windows smashed in and was crumpled down the sides.

Police first spotted the car at 2pm on Prairievale Rd at Bossley Park.

Checks revealed its rego was out-of-date.

They tried to pull it over but the vehicle sped off, with the chase leading them through several suburbs including Bonnyrigg, Guildford, Merrylands and Weatherill Park.

At one point, while the car was in stopped in traffic, police bashed in the windows before the driver drove off again.

The Polair helicopter took over after the pursuit was terminated by highway patrol at Mount Pritchard, when the Suburu Forrester went through a red light and onto the wrong side of the road.

The man eventually dumped the vehicle near a reserve.

He jumped a fence, with the dog squad quickly tracking him down.

Police say the driver is well-known to them.

The vehicle - complete with a kitchen sink inside - was towed away late this afternoon.

9NEWS understands the man is wanted for a number of outstanding arrest warrants.

He is currently being questioned at Fairfield police station.

Police also allege the number plates on the vehicle did not match the registration.

It is also believed the vehicle possible struck other vehicles during the pursuit.

Charges are expected to be laid tonight.
