Video shows moment police smashed car window to arrest driver in Melbourne’s CBD

Police have smashed a car window during the dramatic arrest of a female driver in Melbourne’s CBD.

A member of the public flagged down a police vehicle about 10am today in the Russell Street and Bourke Street area, after witnesses reported a woman in a nearby stationary car looking unwell.

When the police van pulled up behind the car and activated its sirens, the woman allegedly drove off and refused to stop.

She drove up and down Russell Street, performing several U-turns, police said.

Officers then deployed stop sticks to stop the vehicle.

Once the vehicle came to a stop, police smashed the car’s window to reach the woman, who then managed to run a short distance before being arrested.

The woman has been transported to hospital for assessment.

She is likely to face traffic-related charges.
