Police embark on emotional four-day ride to remember fallen colleague

Hundreds of serving and retired police officers have set off on a four-day a memorial ride to honour Brevet Sergeant Jason Doig, who was killed in the line of duty in South Australia last year.

"It's impacted not just us as police or retired police, but also the community as well," retired officer David Reynolds said.

The group is travelling from Adelaide to Canberra 10 months on from when 53-year-old Doig was shot and killed during a callout to a remote property at Senior, near Bordertown.

"He was an exceptional police officer and one that really did set the benchmark for anyone aspiring to be a country police officer," Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said. 

"Jason Doig is the best example I could think of."

The emotional journey to Canberra will see a Baton carrying Doig's name added to the National Police Memorial Wall, along with other fallen officers.
