Police officer injured, five arrested during Gold Coast traffic stop involving alleged stolen vehicle

Five people have been charged and a police officer injured on the Gold Coast last night during a traffic crash involving an allegedly stolen vehicle.

Police said about 8.40pm officers were patrolling on foot along Surfers Paradise Boulevard when they spotted a vehicle, reportedly stolen from an Oxenford property on Monday.

When officers approached the vehicle, it will be alleged the driver accelerated forward, knocking one officer to the ground, and collided with another vehicle in front of it.

Five occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

A male senior constable was taken to hospital with shoulder injuries.

A 16-year-old Labrador boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, acts intended to resist arrest, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and was due to face the children's court.

Manaakitia Ohia, 19, Mitchell Kenny, 20, and brothers Stephen and John Tumbers, 35, 36, were all charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The four adults were refused bail and also were set to face court today.
