Police officer allegedly assaulted woman

A NSW police officer has been accused of physically assaulting a woman while walking home from a New Year's Eve party.
The incident happened when the senior constable and his alleged victim got into an argument in Maryville, in Newcastle, on January 1.
The officer has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, police said on Wednesday.

He has been granted bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on April 3.
