Police injured crashing van into Melbourne house

Two police officers were taken to hospital after their van crashed into a house in Melbourne’s south-west overnight.

At about 8.00pm the officers responded to reports of a fire at a property in Hoppers Crossing.

50 metres from the fire location, the responding officers missed a turn, losing control of the police vehicle and slamming into the side of a house on Grevillea Crescent.

Detectives told 9News the officer driving the van "Overshot the corner."

A husband and wife were watching television inside the house when they were startled by a loud bang.

The occupants weren't injured but the officers were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The house received some structural damage but the occupants have been allowed to remain inside.

An internal investigation is being completed by Victoria police to determine the cause of the crash.

In England, there was another police vehicle accident when a car overturned during a car chase near Buckingham Palace.

At about 4.30am local time, officers were in pursuit of two people travelling on a Moped at Grosvenor Place.

The Moped then collided head on with another police car travelling in the opposite direction.

The collision caused the other police vehicle to flip onto its roof and directly outside the palace grounds.

One of the riders, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is also being investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

A spokesperson said none of the officers sustained injuries.

The 17-year-old has since been arrested and charged with a number of serious driving offences.
