A blue and red haze of distress and tension enveloped onlookers at the crime scene in Leichhardt where Brad Dillon lay dead.

The 26-year-old died on Lords Road after two witnesses tried in vain to revive him.

He had been executed with five shots at close range.

After the shots rang out, witnesses saw two men running away from Dillon’s body.

They fled up George Street, one wearing a green rugby jumper with the number seven on his back, the other with a blue shirt and black gloves.

Their target was left to die and his friends left to grieve.

Dillon’s car was found in the underground carpark of Leichhardt Marketplace.

Police are looking at whether he was involved in low-level drug dealing, and whether it was a motive for the shooting.

“It’s early stages of the investigation but certainly we are looking at all lines of inquiry,” Acting Superintendent Winston Pisani said.

Flowers have been laid by a crowd that has seen a 26-year-old murdered and two young kids left without their dad.
