Police divers search waterways for missing Queensland woman

Police divers will search waterways and a dam on a rural Queensland property where a young Aboriginal woman disappeared almost a week ago.

Bianca Gawne, 20, was reported missing last Thursday after she failed to return home to the rural property she shares with her family at Tandur, south of Gympie, the night before.

Ms Gawne’s mobile phone and bank card were found during preliminary search of the area, but no other evidence of her possible whereabouts was uncovered.

"She was last seen leaving the shed area on the property and was walking back to her sleeping area ... and basically hasn't been seen by her family since," Gympie Criminal Intelligence Branch officer Robert Lowry told reporters.

Mr Lowry said police divers will today search waterways on the boundary of the property, along with a dam.

"Although there is a possibility that she has just wandered off to take time away from the family group, clearly there's also other possibilities of a suspicious nature," Mr Lowry said.

"Until she's found we'll be treating it with the urgency it deserves."

Ms Gawne's family is co-operating fully with police, Mr Lowry said.
