Police arrest men at gun point after violent clash at St Kilda beach

Two people have been arrested at gun-point after police clashed with a gang of youths at St Kilda beach foreshore last night.

An 18-year-old man from Flemington has been charged for drug possession and granted bail, while a 17-year-old from North Melbourne was released without charge

Witnesses told 9News this morning the situation was “scary and intimidating,” with as many as 30 teenagers of Caucasian and African appearance scuffling with officers.

Marine Parade and Jacka Boulevard were lit up with police lights as the public order response team were called in to assist uniformed officers.

Police have been patrolling St Kilda beach as part of operation ‘Sand Safe’ following a spate of violent armed robberies.

Earlier this month a chef was beaten by a gang of men of African appearance.

CCTV is currently being installed by the City of Port Phillip as part of a state government grant but won’t be operational until early December.
