Fresh $500,000 reward offered to help solve missing mum Laura Haworth's suspected murder

The last time anybody saw ACT mother Laura Haworth was 16 years ago.

Haworth, then 23, has been missing since 2008 and police have announced a fresh $500,000 reward for information connected with her disappearance or suspected murder.

The mother-of-two was last seen on January 5, 2008 at a house in Collett Street, Queanbeyan in New South Wales.

A week later, her red Mazda 121 was found at Kanangra Court in Reid, Canberra.

Over the last 16 years, there have been no confirmed sightings of Haworth and police believe she was met with foul play.

Police say it is uncharacteristic for Haworth to not have any contact with her family or friends for so long.

In July, Strike Force Viking – a joint investigation by ACT Policing and NSW Police – was established to re-examine Haworth's disappearance and her suspected homicide.

Yasmin Catley, Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism, announced a $500,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the disappearance or death of Haworth.

"It's critical that anyone with information passes that onto police who have worked tirelessly to investigate Laura's disappearance," Catley said.

"Laura's family have been without their loved one for over a decade and we hope this reward goes some way toward providing answers.

"My appeal to the public is; if you know something, there are now five hundred thousand more reasons to come forward."

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Grey of Monaro Police District said he hoped the reward will encourage someone to come forward with information.

"We believe there is someone out there that knows something about Laura's disappearance. Queanbeyan and Canberra during the Summer holiday period is a transient area with people travelling back and forth from the Coast," he said.

"In addition, with Summernats on the weekend Laura disappeared, there could be people out there from other parts of the state who may have been in the ACT and have information."

He added: "We plead for those people to help bring Laura home and provide some closure for Laura's family who have now been forced to celebrate 16 birthdays and special holidays without Laura. 

"They deserve to know what happened to their daughter, sister and mother."
