PNG insists it's budgeted for APEC 2018

The Papua New Guinean government has offered assurance to APEC countries that it's spending enough on infrastructure ahead of Port Moresby's turn to host the annual leaders' summit in 2018.
The government's chief secretary Isaac Lupari said in 2017 the government had set aside $109.06 million (250 million kina) and would find further funding if needed.
He said preparations to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit had been under way since 2013.

The PNG economy has faced severe challenges as a result of the downturn in global commodity prices.
The government's budget is under heavy strain and it has been forced to cut spending and raise taxes.
Papua New Guineans go to the polls in June.
