PM stops traffic in Sydney marginal

Malcolm Turnbull stopped traffic.

Literally.

There was madness on the streets of Burwood on Friday as the prime minister pressed the flesh with voters in the Sydney marginal electorate of Reid.

From the moment he got out of C1 with wife Lucy on Friday he was crushed.

The pair - and local Liberal MP Craig Laundy - went on a food tour, popping into a bakery, butcher and fish shop along Burwood Road.

Walking arm-in-arm with his wife, Mr Turnbull stopped to say hello to locals, obliging many for selfies and even an autograph.

Car horns were sounded as they waited to cross two streets with their security team and travelling media in tow, at one point blocking a string of eager cars during a green light.

The prime minister was followed throughout by a regular shadow - a climate activist - dressed as a sun, calling for Mr Turnbull to commit to 100 per cent renewable power by 2030.

Despite the sole protester, the walk was largely a positive affair.

The mob scenes were Mr Turnbull's last direct interaction with voters before they cast their ballots on Saturday.

And he'll be hoping one store rubbed off: the Lucky Star Supermarket.
