Prime Minister Tony Abbott has congratulated Australia's "good friend" British Prime Minister David Cameron on his re-election.
Mr Cameron continues as Britain's prime minister after a shock general election result returned him to the head of a Conservative majority.

Mr Abbott noted Mr Cameron's "resolve, perseverance and vision" during his first term in government.
