Plibersek slams 'stupid' gay plebiscite

Senior Labor figure Tanya Plibersek has lashed out at the Turnbull government's "stupid" proposed plebiscite on gay marriage.
Debating a cross-party bill to legalise same-sex marriage, Ms Plibersek said a plebiscite on the issue was a waste of $160 million, especially since several government senators have indicated they won't be bound by the result.
"We don't need a plebiscite to tell us that it's the right thing to do," she told parliament on Monday.
