Pippa Middleton's newspaper column has been axed only six months after the socialite was hired by the UK's Daily Telegraph.

Middleton, who is the sister of Duchess Kate, used her weekly sport and social column to write about topics as diverse as cooking pasta, exercising and laughing with friends the Express reports.

Readers reportedly failed to take to Middleton's musings.

"It's fair to say reader reaction to Pippa's writing wasn't great," a source revealed.

"There were also a few issues with deciding what topics Pippa should and shouldn't write about."

Other reports claim the paper was regularly bombarded with negative letters in the wake of Middleton's articles.

A Telegraph spokeswoman defended the column but declined to reveal who had brought Pippa's association with the paper to an end.

"The column was great," she said.

"Pipp Middleton is a professional freelance writer and has gone on to do other things for other publications.

"As far as I am aware it was just one of those things."

It is not the first time Pippa's writing career has had a hiccup. Earlier this year US publisher Viking Press allegedly dumped her as an author after her debut party-planning book Celebrate reportedly only sold 18,000 copies.

She continues to put her name to columns that appear in Waitrose and Vanity Fair.
