Pilot killed as plane crashes on to Emerald highway

A pilot has been killed in a plane crash on to a central Queensland highway.

The ultralight plane crashed on to the Gregory Highway, about 15km south of Emerald, about 7.35am today, police believe.

Emergency services found the male pilot – who was the plane's sole occupant – dead at the scene.

Initial investigations suggest the plane took off from Emerald about 6am. 

Forensic police are investigating and federal aviation investigators have been advised.
