Pilot dies after glider crashes at airfield near Bathurst

A 75-year-old man has died after his glider crashed into an airfield near Bathurst in New South Wales this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the field on Freemantle Road, Eglinton, after reports the single-engine Schleicher ASH-25M powered glider had come down about 1pm.

The male pilot of the glider died at the scene. He is yet to be identified, police said in a statement.

A crime scene has been established and police investigations are underway.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) are also en-route to examine the wreckage, gather recorded data and interview witnesses as part of their probe.

“No further information about the accident is available at this time,” the ATSB said.
