Phillip Hughes remembered ahead of first Test against India

When Australia’s cricketers walk out onto Adelaide Oval tomorrow for the first Test against India, they will be accompanied by an extra player – Phillip Hughes.

Hughes has been named 13th man for the match, complete with his Test number of 408 emblazoned on all team shirts and his own spot in the dressing room.

A giant 408 has also been painted on Adelaide Oval’s grass and both sides will hold a moment of silience for the fallen batsman.

Hughes died earlier this month after being struck by a cricket ball in the side of the head and whichever team bowls first tomorrow will probably send down a bouncer.

There had been fears for the bowler who sent the ball at Hughes but 22-year-old Sean Abbott was today back in the nets and will play for NSW against Queensland tomorrow.

“He's very positive about playing,” NSW coach Trevor Bayliss said.

“I think a few of the other guys are more of a concern than Sean.

“He's handled himself really well.”
