Petition to end live exports in parliament

An anti-live animal export petition signed by almost 238,000 people has been tabled in federal parliament.

Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi presented more than 10,000 pages to the upper house on Tuesday, with the petition calling for an end to all live animal exports.

The trade has been under fire since video footage emerged of 2400 sheep dying in stifling conditions on a voyage from Fremantle to the Middle East.
