John Irvine: Body of missing grandfather found in WA forest

The body of a missing Perth grandfather has been found in bushland four days after he went missing.

John Irvine's body was found at 11.30 this morning, a short time after a search for the 67-year-old resumed at the Mundaring State Forest, east of Perth.

The 67-year-old from Northam had dementia and is believed to have become disoriented and forgotten how to get home.

Early this morning search crews found his blue polo shirt and a drill he had purchased on the day he disappeared.

SES volunteers and specialist units including Police Air Wing, Canine Section and specialist trackers searched the forest after his blue 2018 Toyota Corolla hatchback was found nearby yesterday afternoon.

His body was found down a dirt track, one kilometre away from where his car was discovered.

His family arrived at the search zone this morning.

The 67-year-old hadn't been seen since Sunday afternoon, when he left his Northam home earlier that morning.

He had travelled more than 200 kilometres.

His last confirmed sighting was at a petrol station in Quairading about 2:30pm on Sunday.
