Perth man to spend more than six months in Singapore jail after assaulting airport officers

A Perth man has been sentenced to more than six months in a Singapore jail after drunkenly assaulting airport officers.

Jason Darragh, 44, pleaded guilty to four charges on Thursday, including one count of using criminal force.

Darragh's offences began on April 20 at Singapore's Changi Airport when he assaulted a police officer.

The next day he was charged with causing "annoyance"  to a member of the public and for using "abusive words" to a police officer.

On May 1, Darragh was charged with causing "annoyance" to a woman by "loitering" around a taxi stand with his hand over his crotch, Perth Now reports.

In sentencing Darragh to six and a half months behind bars, Judge Tan Jen Tse said the sentence was aimed to "deter like-minded people from assaulting our police officers”.

He has been held in remand since May despite being offered bail of $18,647.

Darragh's lawyer told the court he was depressed and had turned to alcohol after separating from his wife.
