Perth man drives into ocean in bizarre escape attempt

A Perth man has driven his 4WD into the ocean in an effort to avoid police, following a pursuit.

Police said they had followed the vehicle for almost two hours, before he allegedly decided to go off road and drive through sand dunes, north of Perth.

The vehicle then plunged into the ocean near Two Rocks as police used their own all-terrain vehicles to try and intercept him.

Several officers were forced to wade into the surf as the 4WD quickly became swamped by waves.

The vehicle was quickly submerged.

Police are expected to allege the man was driving a stolen vehicle.
