Father of five left for dead after Perth hit-and-run

A father of five has been left for dead after being run down by a car in in the Perth suburb of Westminster.

Abdul Qalib, 36, suffered serious injuries after being hit while crossing the road just metres from his home yesterday afternoon.

Neighbours described hearing a loud bang and witnessing the driver stop, get out and check on the injured man, before returning to his car and driving away.

Mr Qalib suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition at Royal Perth Hospital.

His family told 9NEWS he has broken ribs, a broken leg and possible spinal injuries and may need surgery.

Police are still searching for the driver believed to be responsible.

He's described as a young, dark skinned male who was driving a small older model dark blue hatchback.

The car was last seen heading eastbound on Esperanto Way in Westminster with a smashed windscreen.
