Payments for indigenous boarding students

Schools and families of indigenous boarding students will be eligible for payments to help with education and living costs.

Legislation passed federal parliament on Wednesday extending Abstudy and the family tax benefit to students at boarding school aged 16 to 19 from the start of next year.

Abstudy is paid directly to the school and boarding provider to cover tuition and boarding costs, while family tax benefit helps with the cost of raising children.
