Passenger dragged unconscious from car wreck in Adelaide

A 27-year-old man has been dragged unconscious from a car wreck after a suspected joyride in Adelaide ended in a fiery crash.

The disqualified driver of a Holden slammed into a schoolyard at Salisbury North, the impact causing the car to burst into flames.

Residents say the sedan was hooning in Tabora Crescent moments before the crash.

"It shook the house, everything shook, the windows, the pergola, everything shook, it was just unbelievable," witness Sarah Claxton told 9News.

Residents ran out of their homes to render assistance, pulling a 27-year-old male passenger out of the car before the fire took hold.

"Me and the driver ripped the door open and we got his mate out because his mate was still unconscious," one resident told 9News.

"We put his mate on the road here and then the car caught on fire."

When police arrived the driver allegedly attempted to flee.

The 29-year-old from Elizabeth South has been charged with driving disqualified and without due care.

He has also been charged with property damage.

He's been released on bail to appear in court next month.

His passenger is recovering in the Lyell McEwin Hospital.
