Parly auction reaps money for charity

A dinner with Prime Minister Tony Abbott has topped the bidding for the parliamentary press gallery's Mid Winter Ball charity auction.

A mystery bidder paid $15,100 for the dinner for four with Mr Abbott, beating 15 other bids.

A dinner with Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and power couple Malcolm and Lucy Turnbull received 24 bids and was finally sold off for $10,600.

Dinner with Labor leader Bill Shorten and deputy Tanya Plibersek fetched $3950.

Joining the prime minister at the annual PM's XI cricket match in Canberra cost one person $3350.

Businessman and MP Clive Palmer's offer of a dinner at a Canberra restaurant attracted nine bids, with the winner paying $5200.

A Qantas business class return trip for two people to either London or Los Angeles went for $9900.

Tennis lessons with two greats, Liberal MP John Alexander and Ken Rosewell, attracted five bids and went for $1365.

Only one bid came in for dinner with the Australian Greens, at $3000.

A dinner with press gallery members attracted 10 bids and went for $3050, while a 2014 AFL grand final package sold for $4050.

The ball will be held at Parliament House on Wednesday night.
