Almost 500 words from Palmer United senator Glenn Lazarus' website has been copied and pasted from Wikipedia, the Courier-Mail reports.

The personal site for the newly elected politician and former rugby league star plagiarises from the crowd-sourced encyclopedia when describing Queensland's history, industries and attractions.

But the webpage makes a tweak to the state's tourist attractions, adding party leader Clive Palmer's Coolum resort to the list.

The former Brisbane Bronco represents Queensland in the Senate.

Meanwhile, text describing the role of Senators seem to have been taken from one of Senator Lazarus's colleagues, Independent Nick Xenophon.

Senator Lazarus did not reply to repeated efforts from News Ltd to respond to the plagiarism accusations.
