Tasmania would become a "tax-free zone" under a proposal by the Palmer United Party.

Leader Clive Palmer on Wednesday visited northern Tasmania to stand beside his senate candidates including Kevin Morgan to announce the party is committed to making the island state tax free for three years, followed by a tax rate half that of mainland Australia for the following seven years.

"We need investment and jobs in order to develop our towns and communities," Mr Morgan said in a statement.
