Palmer names premier candidate for Tas

The Palmer United Party has named business consultant Kevin Morgan as its candidate for premier of Tasmania.

PUP leader Clive Palmer said at a launch in Hobart on Thursday his party would stand candidates in every seat at the state election.

"The message for today is that help is on the way," Mr Palmer said.

Mr Morgan has worked as a business adviser and was an official in Tasmania's Department of Premier and Cabinet.

He unsuccessfully ran as PUP's candidate in the seat of Braddon at the September federal election, when he received 9.3 per cent of the vote.

"We are very confident of receiving strong support from Tasmanians at the state election and I know the Palmer United Party has all other parties running scared," Mr Morgan said.

Last month, PUP senator-elect for Tasmania Jacqui Lambie said her state should receive a share of Australia's foreign aid budget because it was often treated as another country.

Mr Palmer said he agreed with the idea.

"Tasmania needs to be restructured to set its goals and all of Australia needs to help it do that," he said.

"The commonwealth can play a critical role to provide that sort of leadership."
