Duplication of the Pacific Highway between Hexham in NSW and the Queensland border will be completed within five years.
"We are on schedule to achieve that timetable," federal infrastructure minister Warren Truss said of the 2019-2020 completion date on Tuesday.
The 960 kilometre route carries more than three-quarters of all freight traffic between Brisbane and Sydney aboard 1000 long-distance vehicles every day.

The federal government has made good on its commitment to invest $5.6 billion in the duplication, Mr Truss said.
