P-plate driver fined after allegedly being caught speeding twice in two hours

A teenage P-plate driver has been fined and docked 11 demerit points after he was allegedly caught speeding twice in two hours on the NSW far north coast.

A 17-year-old in a red Ford Focus was pulled over on the M1 Motorway at Gulmarrad, near Yamba, at 12.10pm yesterday.

The red P-plater was allegedly driving 140km/h in a 110 zone.

The teenager was handed a suspension notice and a traffic infringement notice and told he had a three hour grace period to get home to Tweed Heads - about 180 kilometres north.

But about two hours later the same car was pulled over on the same highway at Tanglewood, allegedly driving at 163km/h in a 110 zone.

The vehicle was stopped by a second highway patrol officer and issued a further penalty notice for driving more than 45km over the speed limit.

In total, the 17-year-old male driver was fined $3,455 and 11 demerit points.
