Oz Lotto: Queensland mum and man split $80 million jackpot in major win

They're the random numbers that can turn one in five million of us into multi-millionaires.

And that's exactly what happened last night to two Queenslanders.

An Ipswich Mum and a Sunshine Coast man each pocketed half of last night's mega $80 million Oz Lotto jackpot.

Bronwyn Spencer from The Lott was one of the lucky workers who got to phone them and break the news.

"It was an exciting night last night when we got to break the news to two Queensland winners that they're now $40 million richer," she told 9News.

"From time to time we do see some wins in the same sort of cluster."

The mother purchased her ticket online, while the businessman bought his at Newsxpress in Robina on the Gold Coast while he was in town for work.

The newsagent owners, Karen and Graham Randall feel as though they've won as well.

"Far out, we are still on Cloud Nine, I just can't believe it, I hope that man's celebrating and I hope he hasn't had any sleep and it's unbelievable," Ms Randall told 9News.

"It could have been sold from last Wednesday onwards till yesterday so we even stayed open a little bit later last night just to make sure everybody wasn't missing out."

When The Lott broke the news to the man on the phone, he couldn't believe it.

"He said that he was completely overwhelmed by the win but completely grateful that it had come his way," Ms Spencer said.

"He said the win would help him upgrade to a new home and a new car and realise his long-held passion of attending the Italian Grand Prix."

The Ipswich mother, however, burst into laughter when she heard the news.

"The woman would not stop laughing with glee... the kids were screaming (in the background)'I'm so excited'."

The mum told officials she too will head overseas on holidays, planning to take her family to Canada.

The two wins being in the same jackpot and in the same state is rare. Only one in five million people have the chance of winning.

The winning numbers were 42, 35, 29, 19, 36, 14, 25 with the supplement numbers 13 and 1.
