An Adelaide family has had a terrifying near-miss when an out-of-control car smashed into their home.

Enfield man Don Colton's 26-year-old daughter Lauren and her friend Madi Turner had been in the room just moments before a neighbor lost control of her car and ploughed into the unit.

The runaway vehicle brought down a window and a wall, causing tens of thousands worth of damage.

"The car went through like reversed through three fences, all the way into our bedroom. Smashed the whole entire side of the whole wall and all our stuff," Ms Turner told 9NEWS.

The structure collapsed onto the girls' belongings.

The pair is visiting from the US, and their passports are lost in the rubble.

"I just went into the bedroom and saw that everything was collapsed and was just really thankful that no one was in there," Mr Colton said.

Police are still investigating what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and say it's still not clear if she'll be reported.
