Student suddenly dies at Gold Coast school after 'medical incident'
A community is in shock after the sudden death of a student at a Gold Coast high school this morning.
Ormeau Woods State High School said the 15-year-old Year 10 boy suffered a "serious medical incident" and died.
It is believed the boy collapsed and fell from his chair during class.
A teacher immediately provided CPR to the boy after he fell unconscious but he could not be revived.
The school said guidance and counselling services are being made available for anyone who may require support.
"Out of respect for the family, I am unable to provide any other information at this time, but rest assured, the well-being of your children and the welfare of our staff is our highest priority at this time," acting school principal Dan Finn said.
All classes were cancelled at the school this afternoon.
The incident has been referred to police, with a cause of death not yet known.
