One killed, woman trapped in multi-vehicle crash on Melbourne’s Princes Freeway

One person was killed in the crash. (9NEWS) 

One person has died after five cars and a truck were involved in a serious collision at Point Cook in Melbourne’s south-west.

The vehicles collided on the Princes Freeway near Palmers Road about 2.45pm.

The driver killed in the crash is yet to be formally identified.

A female passenger of the same vehicle was trapped for some time and has sustained life-threatening injuries.

She was taken by air ambulance to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.

Thirteen other people were assessed at the scene but did not need to be taken to hospital.

It is still unknown what caused the vehicles to crash.

All outbound lanes remain closed and traffic is being diverted at Palmers Road.

Motorists are advised to exit at Point Cook Road and use Sneydes Road to get back on the Princes freeway.
