Hoards of teenage girls have swarmed Sydney International Airport as two of the world’s most popular boy bands arrived on one plane.

Fresh from the American Music Awards, One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer touched down in Sydney this morning, more than two hours late after being delayed in Los Angles.

The squealing masses gathered inside the terminal, outside near the tarmac and on a nearby overpass, hoping for a glimpse and maybe a selfie with the young heartthrobs.

After being ushered inside to clear customs, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson from One Direction reappeared from a side door, before being whisked away individually in black vans.

Fellow band members, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik are expected to touch down later today.

Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford from 5 Seconds of Summer following a short time later, smiling and waving to the crowd.

Neither band stopped to sign autographs but young fans were snapping away with the mobile phone cameras.

One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer will perform at the Aria Awards tomorrow.

When announcing the performance, Harry Styles  said “Australia is one of our favourite places in the world, and we’re so excited to be coming to see you to celebrate Four.”
