Young man dead, four people injured in New Year's Eve crash at Mt Mercer

A young man is dead and four other people are injured after a car rolled in western Victoria on New Year's Eve.

The male passenger, aged in his 20s, died at the scene after the car left the road and overturned at Mt Mercer, just before 8pm.

The teenage girl who was driving at the time was taken by helicopter to The Alfred Hospital with serious injuries, along with another passenger.

Two other passengers were taken to Ballarat Hospital in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man's death brought Victoria's road toll to 257 for 2015 - an increase from 249 in 2014.
