Worker dies at BHP's Olympic Dam mine site

A worker has been killed in an accident at BHP's Olympic Dam mine site in South Australia's far north.

Emergency crews were called there before 6am on Anzac Day.

It's understood the victim, a 25-year-old from Two Wells, may have been struck by a vehicle.

He died at the scene and Major Crash police travelled to the site to begin an investigation.

A BHP spokesperson said the company was "deeply saddened" and the cause of death remained "unclear". 

"Our thoughts are with the person's family, friends and colleagues, and we are offering all the support we can during this difficult time," they said.

"We are engaging with SafeWork SA and SAPOL in relation to the incident."
