Oktoberfest 2024 gets underway in Germany
Oktoberfest is under way in Germany.
Held in Munich, the 189th Oktoberfest started this weekend and will attract revellers until October 6 on the Theresienwiese.
Festivalgoers reach out for the first glasses of beer at the Hofbraehaus beer tent on the first day of the historic event.
With all that beer, you need some food - such as traditional pretzels.
There's also tasty gingerbread on offer to take home.
The famous waitresses can carry a staggering amount of beer.
The beer price for Oktoberfest 2024 is between 13.60 euros and 15.30 euros, an average of 3.87 per cent more than in 2023, organisers say.
That's between $22 and $25.
As well as the beer there are attractions, such as a big wheel and other rides.
A drinking lion, the mascot of Loewenbraeu brewery, sits on the rooftop besides a giant beer mug, the logo of Paulaner brewery.

The festival originated on October 12, 1810, in celebration of the marriage of the crown prince of Bavaria, who later became King Louis I, to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.
