Oil, gas tax change pushed after budget

A decision on changes to oil and gas taxes wasn't in the budget because the government wants to get corporate tax cuts through parliament first.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann said the government is considering its response to a review of the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax, but it wasn't in the federal budget because it was still being assessed.

"The government's judgment was, it was sensible to hold off on making final decisions and announcements on this, until that time we had reached consensus on the corporate tax cuts," Senator Cormann told a Senate committee on Tuesday.
