Office of South Australian Senator Cory Bernardi vandalised by protesters

The Adelaide office of South Australian Senator Cory Bernardi has been vandalised by protesters, apparently over his opposition to the Safe Schools program.

Demonstrators gathered outside Mr Bernardi's Kent Town office today, with the building defaced with chalk slogans and a room's contents upturned. 

Slogans including "transphobia kills" and "stop homophobia" were scrawled on the pavement and the building's exterior. 

Among the other messages written on the building was a comment labelling the conservative Senator as "Australia's Trump", a reference to polarising US presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Police have visited the office and no one was injured during the protest.

Mr Bernardi took to Twitter to label the demonstrators as "cowards".

Mr Benardi has been a vocal critic of the anti-bullying Safe Schools program, which teaches school children about gender and sexual diversity.

He has described the program as "age-inappropriate" and suggested it would "horrify" parents. 

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull ordered an independent review into the program and its federal funding, the results of which were handed down to Coalition MPs on Tuesday and revealed publicly this afternoon. 

Education Minister Simon Birmingham said the review found that a number of the resources had lessons and content not necessarily appropriate for all children.
