Off-duty firies save pair from fire in WA

Two off-duty firefighters returning home after battling bushfires in Perth's southern suburbs have rescued a couple from their burning home.

The house fire was reported about 9pm (WST) on Tuesday in the northeastern suburb of Bassendean.

The firefighters forced their way into the house and rescued a 46-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, who were both taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
