Father and son dead after fire guts Victorian home

A father and son have been been found dead inside a home gutted by fire south of Geelong.

Authorities told 9NEWS the blaze broke out shortly after 4am at a residence on Powell Street in Ocean Grove.

Police discovered the bodies of Paul and David Solo, aged 91 and 57, after they were able to control the blaze.

Neighbours told 9NEWS the son and father were well known in the community and had lived in the area for five decades.

"They were just friendly, neighbourly, good natured people," neighbour Alex McLachlan told 9NEWS.

David had been his father Paul's carer and the two were often spotted on walks around town.

One of the men was discovered in a bathroom while the other was found in a bedroom.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and an investigation is ongoing.
