Hundreds of nude photos of Australian women and girls shared online

Nude photos of Australian women, including potentially hundreds of Adelaide women and teenagers, are being traded on a US-based website.

Many of the photos have been taken from private Facebook accounts and are available for anyone to download.

Women who have complained have been told by a moderator of the US based site they need to approach "the owners" of the photos.

"First let's be clear: (this site) is hosted in the United States, not Australia," the administrator said.

"The United States, for its part, still has some freedom left."

"The United States, for its part, still has some freedom left. We've no hate speech laws, no mandatory data collection, and small breasts do not count as child pornography," the moderator said.

One user brags of having more than a 100 pictures of "different SA chicks" and tells users he will "trade win for win".

The same user also posted screen grabs of computer folders containing nude pictures and the names of women.

"I'm here on behalf of a collaborative effort going on at the moment," the user said.

"Working on building the largest Australian archive of nudes.

"Once the archive grows larger we'll dump all back into general circulation so everyone wins."

Comment is being sought from SA police who are understood to be investigating.
