Woman dead in NT sobering-up shelter

A woman has died in a Darwin sobering-up shelter.

The 45-year-old Tiwi Islander was picked up by police about 9pm on Wednesday night "due to her highly intoxicated state" and taken to the sobering-up shelter.

At 10.20pm, she was found not to be breathing and police performed CPR but she was pronounced dead at 11pm.

A file is being prepared for the coroner although police say her death isn't suspicious.
