Teen jail escapees allegedly steal car to break back into Darwin detention centre

Two teenagers who allegedly escaped Darwin's Don Dale Youth Detention Centre have been pictured re-entering the facility in an allegedly stolen car to perform burnouts.

9NEWS has obtained exclusive phone vision taken from a police car pursuing the teenagers yesterday.

It captures the incredible moment the escapees ram the prison’s garage door, smashing through with their white Toyota Yaris, before bursting back into the jail.

It comes after vision filmed on a stolen iPad showed the hoons allegedly performing burnouts inside the jail.

Corrections officials confirmed the two teenagers were recent escapees.

Police later arrested the pair of 16-year-olds at about 1.30pm (ACST) yesterday.

The pair escaped on Sunday night after breaking through the roof of a classroom with the help of four others.

Corrections Commissioner Ken Middlebrook said security would be increased at the centre.
