Cop urges people to 'do the right thing' 25 years on from backpacker's murder
It’s the darkest of secrets which has haunted a family for decades: where is the body of murdered British backpacker Peter Falconio?
The lead cop on the case has joined the victim’s mother to make another plea for help as the 25th anniversary of his murder draws near.

Peter and his girlfriend, Joanne Lees, were ambushed on outback road near Alice Springs in 2001.
Peter’s mother Joan spoke in the belief he was still alive at the time, but those hopes were dashed when Bradley Murdoch was arrested charged and jailed for killing her son.
Murdoch died of cancer last year, refusing to disclose what he did with Peter’s body.

After Peter’s mother, Joan Falconio, spoke about the case as its 25th anniversary draws near, the lead investigator on the case, Colleen Gwynne, has also made another plea for help.
“I imagine Joan, who didn’t want to speak to the media for so many years is now finding that this is a way to try and trying to keep peoples interest and keep people vigilant around trying to find Peter’s remains,” she told 9News.
She urged anyone with any information to “do the right thing do the decent thing and help this family put and end to this”.
Joan said she hopes somebody knows something they can reveal.
“I hope so and I hope they come forward,” she said in a rare interview.
“If anybody knows anything, anything at all, please get in touch with the police.”
A $500,000 reward still stands for any information in relation to the case.
